New Delhi, Nov 5 (NationPress) The renowned US technology leader, Microsoft, revealed on Wednesday its plans to roll out in-country processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions in four nations, including India, by the conclusion of the calendar year 2025.

Additionally, Microsoft intends to broaden this feature to include eleven more countries, as stated in their announcement. The in-country data processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions aims to empower customers with enhanced control over their AI data.

This processing can also boost performance by minimizing latency, thereby providing a more agile Copilot experience, according to the company.

By the end of 2025, users in Australia, the United Kingdom, India, and Japan will have the option for Copilot interactions to be processed within their domestic territories.

In 2026, this capability will extend to countries such as Canada, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

Microsoft stressed that in-country processing enables Copilot interaction data to be handled in data centers located within the customer’s own country, granting them superior control over their data.

This initiative is tailored to assist customers—especially those in government and highly regulated sectors—in utilizing Microsoft 365 Copilot with an added layer of governance, security, and compliance with regulations, as noted in the release.

The announcement included a map showcasing Microsoft 365 data residency and processing commitments, illustrating the nations where in-country data processing will be accessible by the end of 2025 and in 2026.

At present, Microsoft provides in-country data residency for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft 365 Copilot customers across 27 countries, alongside in-region data residency and processing for nations within the European Union (EU) Data Boundary.

India’s data center capacity is projected to increase from the current 1.2 GW to approximately 8 GW by 2030, growing at an annual rate nearing 17 percent, fueled by the nation’s swift digital transformation, escalating internet usage, and rising demand for AI and cloud-based solutions, as reported by Trade Brains.
