New Delhi, July 15 (NationPress) The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has announced the opening of applications for the fifth edition of the National Startup Awards (NSA), a prominent initiative under the Startup India programme.

Aligned with the government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the ambition of a five-trillion-dollar economy, Startup India bolsters startups through various initiatives like startup recognition, tax benefits, regulatory simplifications, funding access, and capacity development, as stated by the Commerce Ministry.

“Startups participating in the NSA undergo a meticulous multi-stage evaluation process that includes eligibility checks, sectoral shortlisting, and assessments by expert panels made up of industry leaders, investors, academics, and government representatives. The DPIIT spearheads the initiative, collaborating with relevant ministries and departments to ensure that the awardees embody national priorities and sectoral diversity,” the ministry elaborated.

The NSA encompasses a broad spectrum of sectors including agriculture, clean energy, fintech, aerospace, health, education, cybersecurity, and accessibility. Each iteration introduces new categories to address emerging challenges and opportunities.

Being recognized by the NSA signifies national credibility, enabling winners to forge partnerships, attract investors, gain policy support, enhance global visibility, and access mentoring opportunities. Numerous past awardees have influenced policy, secured substantial grants, and expanded their international presence.

Since its launch in 2016, Startup India has revolutionized India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, fostering innovation and empowering youth, women, students, and first-time entrepreneurs, especially from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

To date, over 1.75 lakh startups have received recognition from DPIIT, representing almost every district in India and covering various sectors including agriculture, health, education, energy, and deep tech.

To honor and highlight impactful ventures, DPIIT initiated the National Startup Awards in 2019. The awards not only acknowledge commercial success but also consider social impact, sustainability, and scalability. The latest edition attracted more than 2,300 applications, underscoring the initiative's expanding reach and growing prestige.
