New Delhi, July 16 (NationPress) Almost 1.4 lakh new PM Jan Dhan Yojana accounts have been established, along with over 5.4 lakh new enrollments in three Jan Suraksha Schemes since July 1, as reported by the Department of Financial Services (DFS).
The DFS has initiated a three-month nationwide campaign from July 1 to September 30, aimed at enhancing the reach of key programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
This initiative strives to ensure comprehensive coverage across all Gram Panchayats (GPs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), allowing every eligible citizen to access the benefits of these transformative schemes, as stated by the Finance Ministry.
Since the campaign began, 43,447 camps have been organized in various districts to facilitate beneficiary enrollment in essential schemes and promote financial literacy.
Reports have been compiled for 31,305 camps so far.
The campaign will run until September 30, covering nearly 2.70 lakh gram panchayats and ULBs, reflecting the government’s dedication to ensuring last-mile financial empowerment and enhancing socio-economic inclusion through formal financial service access.
The government’s Financial Inclusion (FI) efforts are pivotal in empowering economically and socially marginalized communities by ensuring equal access to formal financial services. These initiatives aim to integrate unbanked individuals into mainstream banking, thereby supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry has confirmed that there has been no directive for banks to close inactive PM Jan Dhan Yojana accounts.
“In light of media reports suggesting that the DFS, Ministry of Finance, has instructed banks to close inactive PM Jan Dhan Yojana accounts, the DFS has clarified that it has not issued such instructions,” according to a recent statement from the Finance Ministry.
An impressive 55.44 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened in India, with 56 percent belonging to women, and the total deposits in these accounts have exceeded Rs 2.5 lakh crore as of May 21 this year.
