Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully constructed 5,313 km of National Highways in the financial year 2025-26, surpassing the initial target of 4,640 km by approximately 15 percent, as announced by the government on Wednesday.
Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to enhancing the national highway infrastructure in India, the NHAI allocated a capital expenditure of Rs 2,44,362 crore in FY26 for this development.
The capital expenditure for this fiscal year reflects a 2.5 percent increase above the Government Budgetary Support of Rs 2,38,384 crore. The additional Rs 5,978 crore was sourced from NHAI’s own financial resources, as stated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Additionally, the NHAI has generated Rs 28,307 crore through various methods, including the Public InvIT, Private InvIT, and Toll-Operate-Transfer (TOT) models, covering TOT Bundles 17 and 18 for FY 2025–26.
With bids for TOT Bundle 19 currently under technical evaluation, the NHAI is on track to meet the government’s budgeted target of Rs 30,000 crore for this fiscal year. Furthermore, the NHAI has successfully monetized over 310 km of National Highways as part of its Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) initiative during InvIT Round-5.
The InvIT-5 has been awarded to NHIT Western Projects Private Ltd for a concession fee of Rs 6,366.98 crore spanning 20 years.
The financing for these assets was achieved through a mix of equity and debt, with the public issue being oversubscribed nearly 14 times, showcasing robust investor confidence in India’s infrastructure sector, the government’s asset monetization strategy, and the promising long-term growth potential of national highway assets.
The NHAI affirms its dedication to constructing world-class national highway infrastructure throughout the country, which will not only foster growth within the road sector but also play a vital role in nation-building and bolster the advancement of the Indian economy.
