New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has achieved a significant milestone in enhancing the nation's highway infrastructure, constructing 5,614 kms of national highways in FY25, exceeding its target of 5,150 kms, as reported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Wednesday.

This accomplishment underscores the authority’s dedication to improving road connectivity throughout India. The NHAI also recorded its highest-ever capital expenditure in a single financial year.

The total expenditure for highway development in FY 2024-25 surpassed Rs 2,50,000 crore (provisional), exceeding the target of Rs 2,40,000 crore.

This amount includes both government budget support and resources generated by the NHAI itself. When compared to Rs 2,07,000 crore spent in FY 2023-24, the expenditure represented a remarkable increase of approximately 21 percent.

Furthermore, this increase was even more pronounced when compared to FY 2022-23, demonstrating a 45 percent rise from Rs 1,73,000 crore.

To secure funds, the NHAI employed three different strategies: toll operate transfer (TOT), infrastructure investment trust (InvIT), and toll securitisation.

Through these monetization strategies, the NHAI generated Rs 28,724 crore in FY 2024-25, with a notable achievement being the highest-ever single-round InvIT receipt of Rs 17,738 crore.

The NHAI remains committed to constructing world-class highways, which are integral to India’s economic growth.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has confirmed that these infrastructure advancements will not only enhance the road network but also propel the overall progression of the nation.

In a related development, the NHAI announced last month that its subsidiary, National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT), successfully completed its fourth fundraising round, achieving an enterprise value of about Rs 18,380 crore.

This signifies the largest monetization deal in the history of India’s road sector, as stated in an official announcement dated March 26.

The NHIT was established in 2020 as an Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) to assist the government in monetizing highway assets. With this recent transaction, the total funds raised across all four rounds have exceeded Rs 46,000 crore.
