Passenger Vehicle Sales in India Rise 4% to 3.5 Lakh Units in November

New Delhi, December 2 (NationPress) The sales of passenger vehicles (PV) in India registered a growth of nearly 4 percent (year-on-year), totaling 3,50,000 units for the month of November, according to data released on Monday.

The overall domestic PV wholesale figures reached 335,954 units last month, fueled by strong demand during the wedding season, an increase in private consumption, and a surge in SUV sales.

Over the January-November timeframe, PV sales totaled 39,80,000 units, marking a 4.1 percent rise compared to 38,21,000 units sold during the same period in 2023.

In November, Maruti Suzuki India recorded sales of 181,531 units, which included 144,238 units in domestic markets, compared to 1,34,158 units in the same month last year, reflecting a growth of 5.5 percent.

The automaker attributes November's sales boost to multiple factors such as the momentum from October, ongoing rural market growth, continuous demand from the wedding season, rising SUV sales, and positive responses to limited edition vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki's penetration in rural markets increased to 48.7 percent in November, which is 2.2 percent higher than the same month last year.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) reported total vehicle sales of 79,083 units for November. In the Utility Vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 46,222 vehicles domestically, a significant growth of 16 percent.

Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Division at M&M Ltd, mentioned that the month featured the launch of electric SUVs – the BE6e and XEV9e.

“The market introduction of these electric SUVs will begin in a phased approach in late January 2025, with deliveries expected to start by the end of February or early March 2025,” he stated.

Tata Motors experienced a 2 percent year-on-year increase in passenger vehicle sales, achieving 47,117 units. Hyundai Motor India recorded 48,246 units in domestic sales and 13,006 units in exports for the month, reflecting a slight decline in overall sales.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported a monthly sales figure of 25,586 units in November 2024, representing a remarkable 44 percent growth compared to 17,818 units sold in the same month last year.
