Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 on 17 September at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, marking a pivotal moment in the country's push to establish itself as a credible global player in the semiconductor and electronics value chain. The three-day event, running through 19 September, will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, investors, researchers, start-ups, and academia under one roof.

Who Is Behind the Event

SEMICON India 2026 is being co-organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI, the global industry body representing the semiconductor and electronics design and manufacturing ecosystem. The theme for this edition is 'Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem' — a phrase that signals India's ambition to move beyond chip design toward full-stack manufacturing and integration.

Scale and Participation

The exhibition will span 15,000 square metres and host more than 600 exhibitors, of which roughly 300 are international companies. More than 150 speakers are expected to address keynotes, panel discussions, and strategic sessions covering semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, supply-chain resilience, advanced packaging, chip design, and talent development.

The expo will also feature six country pavilions and 12 state government pavilions, reflecting the broad domestic and geopolitical interest in India's semiconductor trajectory. Six international country roundtables are also scheduled alongside sessions on women's leadership and workforce development.

Spotlight on Start-ups and Innovation

A dedicated Startup Pavilion will showcase around 40 start-ups, while the Workforce Development Pavilion will focus on microelectronics talent and career pathways. A startup pitch competition, student hackathon, and innovation showcase will give emerging companies and researchers a platform to present ideas and technologies.

A new experiential zone — 'Sand to Silicon to Systems' Value Chain Experience — will offer visitors an end-to-end view of the semiconductor journey, from raw materials and manufacturing through advanced packaging, chip design, and final electronics systems.

SEMICON India 2026 arrives at a critical juncture in the country's semiconductor ambitions. Global demand for diversified supply chains — accelerated by US-China technology tensions and post-pandemic chip shortages — has created a strategic opening for India. The Centre's semiconductor incentive programme has already attracted commitments from several domestic and international players, and this edition is expected to signal how far execution has progressed since policy frameworks were announced.

Notably, the conference programme will specifically address supply-chain resilience and research and development collaboration among industry associations — themes that go beyond exhibition fanfare and reflect the structural conversations India needs to have to compete with established hubs in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. With global chipmakers scouting alternative geographies, what happens at Yashobhoomi over three days could influence investment decisions worth billions of dollars.
