How is PRAGATI Transforming Healthcare by Bringing AIIMS Closer to Remote Areas?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) is spearheading a remarkable transformation in healthcare across India by facilitating the establishment of advanced AIIMS facilities in remote regions, as stated by the government on Tuesday.
Introduced in 2015, PRAGATI serves as the government's premier digital platform aimed at accelerating projects, schemes, and addressing grievances through direct, real-time oversight by the Prime Minister, in collaboration with state governments and Union ministries.
During the 50th PRAGATI meeting on December 31, PM Narendra Modi remarked, “A developed India by 2047 is both a national aspiration and a target within reach, with PRAGATI acting as a significant catalyst to achieve this.”
The initiative has been instrumental in expediting the rollout of AIIMS facilities in various regions of India. It has effectively resolved bottlenecks and transformed governance reforms into tangible health benefits.
Specifically, PRAGATI has energized health care reform in AIIMS locations such as Guwahati (Assam), Jammu, and Bibinagar (Telangana), according to the Ministry of Health.
“These three projects exemplify how leadership-driven platforms can streamline complex, multi-agency health infrastructure into timely, operational facilities. Each AIIMS campus not only boosts critical-care capabilities but also enhances medical training and research, establishing regional health ecosystems in previously underserved areas,” it added.
At AIIMS Guwahati, the first among the Seven Sisters, the PRAGATI platform facilitated essential tasks such as land development, electricity supply, stormwater management, and coordination between state and central authorities.
The 750-bed hospital, covering 25 specialties and 11 super-specialties with extensive Ayushman Bharat coverage, is now fully operational, as confirmed by the Ministry.
Through the PRAGATI platform, long-standing issues concerning water supply (1,243 KLD), high-tension power connection, and inter-agency cooperation were addressed at AIIMS Bibinagar.
This institute, located in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and inaugurated by the government on July 7, 2022, has achieved approximately 85.97% physical progress as of December 1, 2025, and is projected to be completed by June 30, 2026, according to the Ministry.
At AIIMS Jammu, PRAGATI unlocked critical issues, including the relocation of a cremation ground, utility connections, external development, and overall connectivity.
The 750-bed hospital project, featuring 18 super-specialties and 100 MBBS seats serving Jammu and Kashmir along with neighboring areas, is fully operational, the Ministry confirmed.
It noted that PRAGATI has evolved into a driver of governance reform, enabling swifter decision-making, minimizing time and cost overruns, and exposing systemic issues that necessitate policy and process enhancements.
Since its inception, projects valued at nearly Rs 86 lakh crore have benefited from the PRAGATI-led monitoring framework, with 377 projects reviewed and 2,958 out of 3,162 flagged issues resolved.
