New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Friday recognized some ‘shortcomings’ in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) facilities nationwide but firmly asserted that there will be no compromise on the quality of health services provided by the country’s leading health institution.

Responding to SP MP Dharmendra Yadav’s allegations regarding the deteriorating infrastructure of health centers, including AIIMS, the Health Minister acknowledged certain deficiencies while also providing some ‘valid’ explanations for these issues.

“Under Jawaharlal Nehru’s administration, there was only 1 AIIMS. The Atal Behari Vajpayee government established 6 additional AIIMS, and now under the Modi government, the count has increased to 22. This is a significant milestone. Although there have been some shortages due to a rapid growth in health infrastructure, we are addressing these challenges,” Nadda informed the Lok Sabha.

He further emphasized that there will be no compromises in the quality of health services at AIIMS facilities, regardless of the influx of patients.

“There is no compromise on the quality of health care at AIIMS. AIIMS is a brand that must be preserved,” he insisted.

Nadda also discussed the ongoing ‘quality enhancement' initiatives at AIIMS aimed at keeping medical faculty and staff updated with the latest technological advancements and innovations. He highlighted that AIIMS personnel are regularly trained under the National Training Mission, while nurses and other support staff receive training twice a year.

Additionally, he noted that over 62 crore citizens have been included under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which provides health insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh annually for each family.

He further stated that ongoing efforts are being made to review and reform AB PM-JAY to incorporate additional diseases under its coverage.

“Recently, we added bone-marrow transplant to the scheme,” the RS MP stated.
