New Delhi, March 28 (NationPress) Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Friday recognized certain ‘shortcomings’ within the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) facilities nationwide but firmly asserted that there will be no compromise on the quality of health services at the country's leading health institution.
Responding to SP MP Dharmendra Yadav’s allegations regarding the deteriorating infrastructure of health centers, including AIIMS, the Health Minister conceded that there were some deficiencies and provided several ‘valid’ explanations for them.
“During the Jawaharlal Nehru era, there was only 1 AIIMS. The Atal Behari Vajpayee government opened 6 more AIIMS, and now under the Modi administration, the total has increased to 22. This is a significant milestone. Certain shortages have arisen due to a sudden increase in health infrastructure, but these will be addressed promptly,” Nadda stated in the Lok Sabha.
The Health Minister further emphasized that there will be no compromise in the quality of health services delivered at AIIMS facilities, even with an influx of patients.
“There is no compromise on the quality of health care in AIIMS. AIIMS is a brand that must be upheld,” he asserted.
Nadda also detailed the ongoing ‘quality enhancement’ initiatives at AIIMS to ensure that medical personnel stay current with the latest technological advancements and innovations. He mentioned that AIIMS staff receive regular training under the National Training Mission, with nurses and support staff receiving training twice annually.
Additionally, he reported that over 62 crore citizens have been included in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which offers health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh for each family per year.
He further noted that continuous efforts are being made to review and reform the AB PM-JAY to include newer diseases under its coverage.
“Recently, we added bone-marrow transplant to the scheme,” said the RS MP.
