Nadda addressed new medical graduates on Saturday, encouraging them to embrace the highest standards of their profession and commit their talents to serving humanity.
During the 8th Convocation Ceremony at Swami Rama Himalayan University in Dehradun, Nadda emphasized the significant advancements achieved in India’s healthcare system under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly pointing out the expansion of AIIMS.
He remarked on the enhanced availability of advanced tertiary healthcare services nationwide, mentioning that institutional deliveries have surged to nearly 89 percent, indicating strengthened maternal healthcare frameworks.
The Minister also noted a positive trend in maternal health, with the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) dropping from 130 per lakh live births a decade ago to 88 per lakh live births now, and the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) decreasing from 39 to 27 per thousand live births, showcasing ongoing improvements in maternal and child health.
Citing data from the World Health Organisation and UN agencies, Nadda highlighted that India has seen a notably quicker decline in the Under-5 Mortality Rate compared to the global average over the last decade, demonstrating the effectiveness of targeted policy actions and broadened healthcare access.
Discussing tuberculosis control, he pointed out India’s significant reduction in TB incidence, surpassing the global average decline through persistent public health initiatives and community-based efforts.
Additionally, the Union Health Minister showcased India’s unprecedented Covid-19 vaccination campaign, during which over 220 crore vaccine doses, including precautionary and booster shots, were administered across the country, reflecting the scale and resilience of India's public health system.
