New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently emphasized India's significant advancements in railway modernisation under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asserting that the achievements from the past 11 years are evident.
During his address at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) in New Delhi, Vaishnaw mentioned that 35,000 kilometers of new railway tracks have been constructed and 46,000 kilometers have been electrified over the past decade.
“Friends, in the last 11 years, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed a strong emphasis on railway modernisation and the outcomes are clear,” Vaishnaw remarked.
“Today, we boast 35,000 kilometers of tracks constructed in the past 11 years, 46,000 kilometers of electrified railway tracks, an extraordinary figure, and 40,000 new coaches produced,” he further added.
He also highlighted that around 40,000 new coaches have been manufactured during this timeframe, showcasing India's increasing proficiency in railway infrastructure and technology.
Labeling these accomplishments as “phenomenal,” the minister pointed out that the evolution of Indian Railways mirrors the government’s long-term vision for a modern, sustainable, and passenger-centric transportation system.
Discussing the country's inaugural bullet train project, Vaishnaw indicated that construction is progressing swiftly, with 325 kilometers already completed.
“I recently visited Surat and Bilimora stations, which will comprise the initial segment to be inaugurated in 2027,” he added.
The minister also provided updates on the growing fleet of contemporary train services, stating that India currently operates 156 Vande Bharat services, 30 Amrit Bharat services, and 4 Namo Bharat services—all of which have gained immense popularity among travelers.
In his speech, Vaishnaw commended the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for organizing the IREE and recognized the participation of equipment manufacturers and railway organizations.
However, he encouraged CII to think larger and aspire to create a railway exhibition on a global scale that exceeds Germany’s InnoTrans.
“India deserves a significantly larger railway conference and exhibition. I urge DG CII to reconsider the entire concept and encompass every facet of railway transportation—from technology and design to software and high-speed networks,” he remarked.
