New Delhi, Feb 19 (NationPress) The CEO of Alphabet and Google, Sundar Pichai, expressed his astonishment regarding the rapid changes occurring in India and emphasized the necessity of a bold approach to AI, highlighting its potential to enhance the lives of billions. Speaking at the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ in New Delhi, Pichai revealed that the company is working on a comprehensive network of subsea fiber optic cables, which includes four new systems connecting the US and India as part of the India-America Connect initiative.
“In India, we are assisting farmers in safeguarding their livelihoods. The Indian government utilized AI-driven forecasts to inform millions of farmers about adverse weather conditions last year,” he noted during the event.
“We will not unlock the full potential of AI unless we collaborate,” Pichai stressed.
He further mentioned that we are on the brink of significant advancements and must engage with AI courageously, as it holds the power to transform the lives of billions.
“For half a century, predicting protein structures has been a monumental challenge that hindered drug development. Today, over three million researchers across 190 nations are employing it to create malaria vaccines,” he stated.
Google is setting up a comprehensive AI hub in India as part of its $15 billion investment in infrastructure.
Pichai pointed out that Google is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) at every level in India to enhance healthcare, support startups, agriculture, and more.
“The country must ensure substantial investments are directed toward AI research and its implementation across various sectors,” he added.
The 'India AI Impact Summit 2026' is currently taking place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, from February 16 to 20. The summit has gathered policymakers, industry leaders, academics, innovators, and civil society representatives from around the globe.
It aims to establish a global forum for discussions aimed at fortifying collaboration in artificial intelligence. More than 110 countries and 30 international organizations are participating, with approximately 20 Heads of State or Government and nearly 45 ministers in attendance.
