Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Reaches Maximum Speed of 180 km/h During Trials

New Delhi, Jan 3 (NationPress) The government disclosed on Friday that the Vande Bharat sleeper train has attained a peak speed of 180 km per hour during multiple trials conducted in the past three days.
The trials are set to continue until the end of this month, paving the way for this world-class travel option for long-distance journeys to be accessible to passengers throughout the country, as stated by the Ministry of Railways.
In a post on X, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video showcasing a successful trial in the Kota Division, highlighting the impressive speed.
The footage captures a full glass of water placed next to a mobile device on a flat surface inside the Vande Bharat sleeper train, demonstrating the stable water level as the train maintains a consistent peak speed of 180 km per hour.
This announcement follows three days of successful trials, which concluded on January 2, during which the Vande Bharat sleeper train, in its loaded state, achieved the peak speed, according to ministry reports.
On Thursday, during a 30-km journey between Kota and Laban in the Bundi district of Rajasthan, the train reached a peak speed of 180 km/h. A day prior, in a 40 km trial run between Rohal Khurd and Kota, the Vande Bharat sleeper train also reached the peak speed of 180 km per hour.
On that same day, speeds of 170 km/h and 160 km/h were recorded on the Kota-Nagda and Rohal Khurd-Chau Mahla routes, respectively.
"The New Year is poised to introduce faster and safer rail travel to commuters in India. After successfully providing rapid, secure, and world-class travel experiences for those using short and medium-distance chair car trains, Indian Railways is now transforming this into a reality for long-distance services as well," emphasized the minister.
Upon the conclusion of these trials, the train will undergo evaluation by the Railway Safety Commissioner at its maximum speed. Only after passing this final assessment will the Vande Bharat trains receive official certification and be turned over to Indian Railways for regular service, as per the ministry's statement.
Passengers can already experience reclining seats and a world-class travel experience through 136 Vande Bharat trains currently operating across the nation for medium and short-distance travel.
