New Delhi, July 22 (NationPress) Venture Capital (VC) investment in India has surged to $3.5 billion across 355 deals in the second quarter of 2025 (Q2 2025), an increase from $2.8 billion across 456 deals in the previous quarter, according to a report released on Tuesday.
During this period, fintech emerged as one of the most attractive sectors for investment within the country, as highlighted in KPMG's latest 'Venture Pulse Q2 2025' report.
“India's venture capital ecosystem exhibited resilience in Q2’25, with funding increasing despite global uncertainties. Key sectors such as fintech, health-tech, and logistics attracted significant investor interest, showcasing confidence in India's innovation capabilities,” said Nitish Poddar, Partner and National Leader, Private Equity, KPMG in India.
The performance of the quarter emphasizes the country's expanding role in shaping the startup ecosystem across the region, Poddar added.
In contrast, global venture capital investment fell to $101.05 billion in this quarter from $128.4 billion in Q1 2025.
Nonetheless, the second quarter remained relatively strong despite ongoing geopolitical conflicts, trade tensions, and macroeconomic uncertainties, the report noted.
Investor focus primarily remained on large-scale opportunities, especially in the AI and defence-tech sectors.
The report indicated that the US leads global VC investment in AI, securing deals exceeding $1 billion in this domain.
“The US captured nearly 70 percent of global VC investment during Q2’25. The sectors of AI, defence tech, and space tech were responsible for the five largest deals, according to the report,” it stated.
Companies focused on defence-tech and AI also secured funding in other regions.
While defence-tech and AI were the hottest sectors for VC investment in the second quarter, fintech also drew renewed interest from global VC investors, as per the report.
Meanwhile, VC investment in Europe remained stable as investors shifted their focus to larger and late-stage deals.
In Europe, VC investment remained nearly unchanged at $14.6 billion in Q2’25, only slightly down from $16.3 billion in Q1’25, despite a decrease in deal count from 2,358 to 1,733, as reported by KPMG.
Conversely, VC investment in Asia remained weak, with only a slight increase in total investment from $12.6 billion in Q1 2025 to $12.8 billion — still the second-lowest total in over a decade.
Deal volume in Asia fell from 2,663 in Q1 2025 to just 2,022 in Q2 2025, the report noted.
