Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: How PM Mudra Yojana is Transforming Giridih
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Giridih (Jharkhand), April 8 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) is proving to be a vital support system for small business owners in the Giridih district of Jharkhand, empowering countless individuals to launch their own enterprises and achieve financial autonomy.
This initiative provides collateral-free loans, enabling the setup of a diverse range of small businesses, such as retail outlets, tailoring shops, mineral water production facilities, e-rickshaws, and street vending services. This has greatly enhanced the sense of self-sufficiency among the local populace, especially women, who are increasingly embracing entrepreneurship.
Munni Kumari, a participant from Ashram Road in Giridih town, recounted her journey to success. She stated that with the backing of the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and PMMY, she was able to establish a mineral water plant. This venture is now yielding a consistent income and has also generated job opportunities for others in the region.
Her father-in-law, Upendra Singh, mentioned that Munni had always dreamed of starting her own business, but financial constraints held her back. “Eventually, we discovered the scheme and submitted an application through the District Industries Office. The loan was sanctioned by the Bank of India, and now our entire family is engaged in the business. We are doing well and have plans for further expansion,” he shared.
Munni’s husband, Rahul Kumar, also expressed gratitude for the scheme's influence on their lives. “I secured a loan under the PMEGP via Bank of India. I extend my thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative. My loan was approved within just 24 hours. Our financial situation has improved remarkably since then,” he noted.
Sarvottam Kumar, the Branch Manager at Bank of India in Giridih, emphasized the extensive impact of this scheme. He pointed out that in recent years, thousands have taken advantage of Mudra loans, with a significant number of female entrepreneurs among them.
“In Jharkhand alone, Bank of India has disbursed loans totaling approximately Rs 2,370 crore, assisting individuals in achieving self-employment. Numerous beneficiaries are now managing thriving businesses,” he remarked.
Initiated on April 8, 2015, the PMMY offers collateral-free loans up to Rs 20 lakh for non-corporate, non-farm micro and small enterprises. The main goal of the scheme is to encourage income-generating activities across various sectors including manufacturing, trading, and services.
In Giridih, the initiative has not only accelerated self-employment but has also revolutionized lives, turning many individuals who once battled for a livelihood into self-sufficient entrepreneurs.
