Mumbai, Nov 27 (NationPress) Aamir Khan recounted the touching experience of introducing his son Azad to legendary actor Dharmendra.
During the 56th International Film Festival of India, Aamir expressed his deep bond with Dharmendra, particularly in the final year of his life. He shared that he visited Dharmendra approximately 7 to 8 times, and during one of these visits, he felt it was essential for Azad to meet the iconic actor, whose legacy he had yet to explore.
Aamir reflected on Dharmendra’s illustrious career, stating, “I grew up admiring him. He was celebrated as the action hero, the quintessential he-man, excelling in portraying strong roles in action films. Yet, I believe his remarkable performances in romance and various genres often go unnoticed.”
“He excels in comedy and drama too. In my opinion, Dharamji ranks among our finest actors. I have always looked up to him,” Aamir continued.
He added, “What a charming man he was. Today, I'm not in Bombay, but it's his prayer meeting, which I will regrettably miss. I was fortunate to spend time with him, perhaps 7-8 times in the last year. His company was a joy. I brought Azad along one day, eager for him to meet someone he hadn't seen in action, and we enjoyed a few hours together. It was truly a delightful experience. Not only was Dharamji a gifted actor, but he was also a remarkable human being.”
“He had a gentle nature. Regardless of who he met—be it a colleague or someone outside the industry—he always greeted them with warmth and kindness. He was a wonderful person, a great actor, and his loss is felt deeply by all,” the ‘3 Idiots’ star remarked.
Aamir Khan was among the many celebrities who attended Dharmendra’s funeral, where stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Jeetendra, Sanjay Dutt, Abhay Deol, Shatrughan Sinha, and others paid their final respects.
Dharmendra, affectionately known as Bollywood’s He-Man, passed away on November 24 at the age of 89.
