Rajkot, Nov 27 (NationPress) With Ahmedabad officially designated as the host city for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2030, this marks a significant achievement in the nation's sports arena and presents a remarkable opportunity for the state government to enhance the construction of sports complexes and infrastructure within the city.
A 52-crore sports complex is currently being built, while the city administration is preparing to establish an athletes' village capable of housing over 3,000 athletes.
This development serves as a pivotal moment for the Gujarat government to forge a new identity for the city on the global sports stage.
Dr. Arjunsinh Rana, the former Vice-Chancellor of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University, shared insights with IANS regarding this historic opportunity, emphasizing how the administration can leverage the CWG to create cutting-edge sports facilities and position the city as a central hub for the games.
Reflecting on the rise of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University as a prominent sports center, he noted that the groundwork was laid years ago when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Dr. Rana elaborated that the initiative 'Khelo Gujarat' was introduced in 2010 to bolster the sporting culture in the state, and in 2022, Gujarat had the chance to host a national-level competition, thereby enhancing its capabilities.
Commenting on Ahmedabad securing the rights to host CWG 2030, he stated that this achievement is the realization of a long-held dream.
“This is a moment of pride not just for Gujarat, but for the entire nation. Words fail to describe this joy. We extend our gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this achievement,” he expressed.
The Vice Chancellor also commended the Khel Mahakumbh 2010, now recognized as Khelo India, highlighting that such visionary decisions lay the groundwork for future successes.
He mentioned that today, athletes in villages across Gujarat are receiving essential facilities, enabling their easy and timely participation in various sporting events.
