Kolkata, Nov 27 (NationPress) A contingent of Trinamool Congress activists staged protests in Diamond Harbour, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, on Thursday. This occurred following the arrival of Sukanta Majumdar, the former State BJP President and current Union Minister of State for Education. His visit aimed to support local BJP members who were injured in an alleged attack by ruling party members days earlier.
However, Trinamool Congress officials contended that the demonstrators were, in fact, BJP supporters associated with another former State BJP President and ex-Lok Sabha member, Dilip Ghosh.
“Our party members had no involvement in the protests against Sukanta Majumdar. The unrest stems from internal conflicts within the BJP,” remarked a local Trinamool Congress representative.
In contrast, Majumdar asserted that some protesters intentionally donned saffron scarves to mislead the public.
“This illustrates the new political tactics of the Trinamool Congress. They are staging protests while masquerading as BJP supporters, draping saffron scarves and applying tilaks on their foreheads. One individual seen in saffron was Raju, a Trinamool Congress leader from Diamond Harbour and an associate of the infamous criminal Shamim. The ill-informed Trinamool Congress will remain uninformed,” he stated.
Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and a senior BJP figure, characterized this as a manifestation of political desperation, claiming that Trinamool Congress resorted to disguising their own members in saffron robes to confuse BJP supporters during protests against BJP officials.
“One cannot simply become a BJP member by draping a saffron scarf. It demands considerable sacrifice, dedication, and the endurance of numerous challenges,” asserted LoP Adhikari.
At the time of this report, there had been no official statements from either Trinamool Congress or the authorities of the Diamond Harbour Police District.
