Chennai, Jan 7 (NationPress) Actor Kalaiyarasan, who is set to star in a key role in the forthcoming Tamil movie 'Madraskaaran', has made it clear that he plans to be very selective moving forward and will avoid taking on numerous character roles.
During a Q&A session at a promotional event for 'Madraskaaran', which features actor Shane Nigam in the lead, Kalaiyarasan addressed a question regarding his frequent portrayals of villainous characters. He shared, "I will not take on many character roles after this. I believe that it is not particularly beneficial in our industry. While I am open to character roles because they have been my source of income, I will not forget their importance."
"It is true that characters hold significant value. However, in an industry like Malayalam, some actors engage in multi-starrer films (which also happens here but to a lesser extent). In Malayalam cinema, actors may take on minor roles in major films, and while they might also play antagonists, they still land roles as leads in other projects.
"In our industry, once you are cast in a negative role, you tend to be pigeonholed into similar roles. Imagine a scenario where a standard film features a hero role that anyone can fill, yet I find myself consistently cast as a secondary hero. This tendency to categorize actors is troubling, and I do not consider it healthy. Therefore, from now on, I will be quite selective and will choose only those characters that hold true significance, or I will focus solely on lead roles," he stated.
In 'Madraskaaran', which premieres on January 10, Kalaiyarasan portrays a character hailing from Pudukottai. The film also stars Niharika Konidela, Aishwarya Dutta, Karunas, Pandiarajan, and Super Subbarayan, among others.
