Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 6 (NationPress) Adivi Sesh has integrated the legendary 90s hit ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast’ from the blockbuster film featuring Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon into his forthcoming movie, Dacoit. The actor and writer revealed that this decision is not merely a creative one, but also profoundly personal, tied to his treasured childhood memories.
As the teaser for Dacoit was being developed, Sesh was adamant about recapturing the nostalgia associated with that era. He made a conscious effort to obtain the song's rights legally so it could be featured in the film, enabling him to revisit a slice of his youth.
Sesh stated to IANS: “Certain songs become integral to your identity, and Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast has always been one of those for me. Growing up in the 90s, this track was inescapable, and I was irresistibly drawn to it.”
“It played during my very first stage performance at school, as part of a dance medley, and that memory has remained with me all these years.”
This iconic song hails from the 1994 action thriller Mohra, directed by Rajiv Rai, which also features prominent actors like Naseeruddin Shah, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Raveena Tandon, and others. The movie was reportedly inspired by the 1987 film Death Wish 4: The Crackdown, with its climax resembling the 1992 Hong Kong classic, Hard Boiled.
While working on Dacoit, Sesh felt an inherent urge to revive that emotional connection.
“Not as a gimmick, but as something genuine and instinctive. Including the song was my tribute to the younger version of myself who discovered the thrill of music, performance, and audience engagement.”
He concluded: “Securing the rights was crucial because this decision transcended mere creativity; it was deeply personal. It’s a small piece of my past that now resides within the film, and I hope it sparks the same nostalgia and energy for viewers when they hear it.”
Dacoit also features Mrunal Thakur, Prakash Raj, Sunil, Atul Kulkarni, Zayn Marie Khan, and Kamakshi Bhaskarla, among others.
The film narrates the story of an angry convict seeking revenge against his former girlfriend who betrayed him. As he devises a dangerous scheme to ensnare her, the narrative blossoms into an emotionally charged tale of love, betrayal, and vengeance.
Filmed simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, the story and screenplay of Dacoit have been co-created by Adivi Sesh and Shaneil Deo. Currently in post-production, Dacoit is poised for a grand pan-India release.
