Mumbai, Oct 1 (NationPress) Actor Anshuman Jha’s eagerly anticipated directorial debut, Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, will showcase newly crafted interpretations of two celebrated symphonies by the renowned German composer and pianist Ludwig van Beethoven. This black comedy thriller features performances by Rasika Dugal and Arjun Mathur.
Anshuman shared with IANS: “As a director, I aimed to explore contrasts. The sound design plays a crucial role in shaping the cinematic experience — often, less is indeed more. Beethoven’s compositions hold a precise, almost sacred quality. Placing that against the backdrop of a chaotic black comedy like Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, which takes place in the West, generates a tension that is both absurd and deeply meaningful.”
A devoted fan of Ludwig van Beethoven, Anshuman has reinterpreted two of the composer’s most notable pieces, Für Elise and Symphony No. 5, for the film’s soundtrack.
This reinterpretation was developed in partnership with Margitte Award-winning Belgian composer Simon Fransquet.
Anshuman continued: “In 2025, these classical works are not merely background music — they serve as ironic narrators, intensifying the madness within the haveli while also reminding us that human folly, much like great art, is timeless. My intention was not to borrow from Beethoven — I sought a collaboration that spans centuries.”
On the subject of reworking the classics, Simon Fransquet added, “For me, it’s about resonance, not imitation. Beethoven is one of the most instantly recognizable voices in music history, so the challenge was to make his essence resonate within today’s soundscape. I aimed for texture, tension, and distortion rather than a mere museum reproduction.”
Fransquet elaborated: “The violin we recorded doesn’t perform Für Elise in the traditional sense — it scratches at it, whispers it, and screams it. It becomes almost ghostly, as if Beethoven’s spirit is still present but filtered through the fragmented emotional landscape of today.”
Filmed entirely with a single lens, this project marks Anshuman Jha's directorial debut, also featuring Arjun Mathur, Tanmay Dhanania, and Paresh Pahuja in significant roles.
Shot entirely in the UK, this Hitchcockian chamber drama possesses an edgy, international flair as it merges suspense, humor, and sharp commentary on identity within the enigmatic atmosphere of a mysterious evening. The film faced delays with Indian censors for over six months, as stated.
Lord Curzon Ki Haveli is produced by Golden Ratio Films and First Ray Films, and presented by MAX Marketing Limited.
The film is slated for theatrical release on October 10.
