Hyderabad, May 30 (NationPress) Renowned Tollywood star Nandamuri Balakrishna has been awarded the NTR National Film Award by the Telangana government, recognizing his significant impact on the film industry. Notably, acclaimed director Mani Ratnam will receive the Paidi Jairaj Film Award for his outstanding contributions.
The announcement of these prestigious awards was made on Friday as part of the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards (GTFA).
The veteran actor Murali Mohan, alongside Telangana State Film Development Corporation (TSFDC) chairman Dil Raju, revealed the special awards.
Balakrishna will accept the award named after his father, the legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. T. Rama Rao, affectionately known as NTR.
Popularly referred to as Balayya in the film industry, Balakrishna began his career as a child actor at the age of 14 and has since appeared in over 100 films across a span of four decades.
The jury has chosen Mani Ratnam for the Paidi Jairaj Film Award for his contributions as an influential figure in Indian cinema.
Additionally, director Sukumar will be honored with the BN Reddy Film Award for Telugu film directors, and Atluri Purna Chandra Rao will receive the Nagireddy & Chakrapani Film Award for Telugu producers.
Vijay Devarakonda is the recipient of the Kantha Rao Film Award for Telugu artists, while screenwriter Yendamuri Verendranath will be awarded the Raghupathi Venkaiah Film Award for contributions outside of acting in Telugu cinema.
The jury has also announced the best films from 2014 to 2023. Following the announcement of the GTFA awards for 2024 across 11 categories, the jury revealed the best films from the last decade.
The selected films were produced between June 2, 2014 (the formation of Telangana state) and December 31, 2023, with three films chosen as the best for each year.
The best film for 2014 was 'Run Raja Run', while 'Rudramadevi' received the accolade for 2015. 'Shatamanambhavathi' was deemed the best for 2016, and 'Bahubali Conclusion' took the title for 2017.
For 2018, 'Mahanati' won, and 'Maharshi' was awarded for 2019. Other notable films include 'Ala Vaikuntapuramulo' (2020), 'RRR' (2021), 'Sitaramam' (2022), and 'Balagam' (2023).
The Nandi awards for excellence in Telugu cinema have been revitalized and renamed after the revolutionary poet and balladeer Gaddar, who passed away in 2023. This revival comes after a 14-year hiatus.
The distinguished actress Jayasudha, who led the jury, announced the awards for 2024 on Thursday.
All awards will be presented on June 14.
