Hyderabad, Jan 18 (NationPress) Tollywood stars N. Balakrishna, Jr NTR, and Kalyan Ram gathered on Saturday to honor the legacy of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. T. Rama Rao on the occasion of his 28th death anniversary.

They began the day by offering floral tributes at NTR Ghat, located by the scenic Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad, reminiscing about N. T. Rama Rao's significant impact as an actor, leader, and chief minister.

Accompanied by his brother Kalyan Ram, Jr NTR was among the first to lay wreaths at their grandfather's memorial.

A considerable crowd of Jr NTR's fans also attended the solemn event.

Balakrishna, who serves as a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA in Andhra Pradesh, also paid his respects to his father, joined by his brother N. Ramakrishna and other family members.

Balakrishna expressed that NTR was not just an exceptional actor but also a devoted servant to the people, particularly the underprivileged.

He emphasized that NTR's legacy would forever reside in the hearts of many, noting that it was NTR who championed the self-respect of the Telugu community by founding the TDP and achieving global recognition for them.

Balakrishna remarked that NTR's contributions to both cinema and politics would be eternally acknowledged.

He remembered that during his tenure as chief minister, the late leader initiated numerous welfare schemes for the impoverished, describing NTR as a university of knowledge and a role model.

Balakrishna highlighted how NTR streamlined administration through the establishment of new talukas and mandals and introduced groundbreaking initiatives like the Rs.2-a-kg rice program.

Also present, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh paid tribute at NTR's memorial, accompanied by his mother Bhuvaneswari, NTR's daughter.

Lokesh reminisced about NTR's role in elevating the status of Telugu people and implementing numerous administrative reforms.

He expressed hope that NTR would be honored with India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, in the near future.

The legendary actor NTR founded the TDP in 1982 under the banner of Telugu self-respect, making history by seizing power within nine months and ending the Congress's single-party dominance in undivided Andhra Pradesh.

NTR passed away on January 18, 1996, just months after his son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu orchestrated a revolt to become the chief minister.
