Why Bowling Holds a Special Significance for Ben Stiller
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, April 3 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood star Ben Stiller has made a name for himself as an actor, producer, and director; however, he admits he could benefit from some extra practice in the bowling arena.
The sport takes center stage in a five-part series that debuted on March 16, representing a significant chapter in Stiller's multifaceted career, as highlighted by People magazine.
Stiller shared with People, “I’ve had to bowl publicly a few times, the most recent being at the premiere for this series (*Born to Bowl*) where I was asked to roll the ceremonial first ball and, naturally, I guttered it.”
He reflected, “The first short film I created that eventually got featured on *Saturday Night Live* during my early career was a parody of *The Color of Money*, the Martin Scorsese and Tom Cruise film about pool. I made it with my friends, but it was centered around bowling. Thus, bowling holds a special place in my heart.”
According to People, Stiller sold his film *The Hustler of Money* to SNL before joining the cast for a brief four-episode run in 1989. Over three decades later, he returns to the sport through a docuseries that follows five bowlers on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour, shedding light on the realities of their lives on the road.
He noted, “These athletes are the best in the world, the leading bowlers in the U.S., and the stark contrast of their day-to-day lives compared to those at the pinnacle of other sports is quite revealing.”
“I was a bit taken aback by how much these individuals need to endure just to make it on the bowling circuit,” he concluded.
