New Delhi, June 18 (NationPress) Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, known for his blockbuster hits like “Pearl Harbour” and “Pirates Of The Caribbean”, has shed light on the exhilarating and authentic nature of the latest feature film, ‘F1 -The Movie’. He revealed that Brad Pitt, the acclaimed Hollywood actor, was adamant about personally driving the race cars during filming.
In spite of the high-octane action, Bruckheimer emphasized that ‘F1 -The Movie’ weaves an emotional, romantic, and dramatic narrative that propels the story forward.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS about his motivation to create a movie centered around Formula 1 racing, Bruckheimer stated: “It’s an incredible sport. With only ten teams, each having two drivers, it’s unique because your teammate is also your rival.”
He continued, “There are just 20 phenomenal athletes going 220 miles per hour, filled with drama and excitement. These powerful machines are akin to rockets as they navigate around the track, which isn’t an oval, but a road course.”
Bruckheimer expressed his excitement, stating, “They have to take corners at 220 and then brake down to 50. It’s exhilarating and sets the stage for drama. That’s why we cast Brad Pitt—to convey that thrill.”
To ensure authenticity, Bruckheimer enlisted Lewis Hamilton, the British racing champion, as a producer to maintain accuracy in depicting F1.
“The first step was approaching Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, to collaborate on the project. He became a producer and kept us genuine—ensuring accuracy throughout,”
Bruckheimer explained.
He revealed that Brad Pitt was determined to drive the race cars himself, and Hamilton confirmed Pitt's driving capabilities.
Bruckheimer noted, “When Brad agreed to the movie, he insisted, 'I’ll only do it if I can actually drive the cars.' Lewis took Brad to the track, and after a high-powered test, he confirmed, 'He’s an amazing athlete—he can handle this.'”
“Lewis then gave Brad the ride of his life around the track at full throttle. It was thrilling for him and showcased what these drivers can achieve,” Bruckheimer added.
The producer emphasized that the entire filming process revolved around the fact that Brad was genuinely behind the wheel.
“Whenever you see Brad in the car, he’s truly driving it—no blue or green screens, no visual effects. They’re reaching speeds of 180 miles per hour and braking to 50,”
he stated.
Bruckheimer acknowledged the physical challenges, stating, “Experiencing 5Gs in corners is brutal. Yet, with all the incredible elements we crafted—building six cars, traveling globally, and setting up our own garage—we attended nine different F1 races, immersing ourselves in the F1 environment.”
He concluded, “That’s the essence of excitement. You’re with real drivers, alongside our actors, on authentic tracks. However, the most compelling aspect remains the story—it’s romantic, humorous, and thrilling. You genuinely feel the vibrations of the cars, but ultimately, it’s the emotions that carry the film.”
