Kantara Controversy: Court Urges Ranveer Singh to Issue Apology
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, March 24 (NationPress) The Karnataka High Court has examined a petition from Ranveer Singh aimed at quashing a private complaint and FIR concerning his alleged offensive remarks about a divine figure in Rishab Shetty's film, Kantara: Chapter 1.
During the proceedings, a single-judge bench led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna raised concerns regarding the delay in submitting objections.
The bench remarked that Ranveer's comments were "not appropriate", highlighting the accountability that comes with being a public figure.
It was claimed that Ranveer's earlier apology on social media lacked sincerity, prompting a request for him to visit Chamundi Hill with his lawyer to offer a personal apology.
The court concurred, suggesting that if Ranveer is summoned for an apology, he should adhere to this request.
The matter has been postponed until April 10 for further deliberation.
Recalling past events, Ranveer encountered significant backlash after a video surfaced online in which he referred to Chamundi daiva as a "Female ghost".
While praising the film, he mentioned, "I watched Kantara: Chapter 1 in theatres, and Rishab, your performance was exceptional, especially the scene where the female ghost (Chamundi daiva) enters your body; that shot was impressive."
He even went on to replicate the moment in which Chamundi daiva possesses Rishab, which provoked criticism from social media users who clarified that Chamundi is a Goddess, not a ghost.
Subsequently, the 'Dhurandhar' actor issued a heartfelt apology online, stating his intention was merely to celebrate Rishab Shetty's remarkable performance.
He wrote, "My aim was to underscore Rishabh's phenomenal acting in the film. As an actor, I understand the effort it takes to portray that scene as he did, and he has my utmost respect. If I have offended anyone, I genuinely apologize."
