Chennai, Feb 24 (NationPress) Director Ashwath Marimuthu, whose recently launched film ‘Dragon’ is on track to become a blockbuster, revealed that the movie serves as a form of apology to his parents for not realizing their dream of him becoming a doctor.

Sharing on X, Ashwath, whose film was an assured success even prior to its debut, introduced his parents. He posted their pictures on his timeline, stating, “Meet my parents, Marimuthu engira dhanapal and enga ponalum avar potutu pora jolna pai (Marimuthu aka Dhanapal and his bag that he carries everywhere). Chitra as Chitra. Dragon was more like an apology to them for not becoming a doctor, which they desired after my 12th grade, while I became a rather unremarkable engineering student, which I later recognized was not impressive.”

‘Dragon’, which received favorable reviews, had already recouped its investment through non-theatrical avenues before its release.

Indeed, director Ashwath Marimuthu had previously mentioned in an exclusive interview with IANS, “We produced this film with a budget of Rs 37 crores. We have already recovered that amount from the satellite, OTT rights, and other rights that have been sold. We have all bases covered.”

Producer Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainment also corroborated this information in a separate interview with an online media outlet. She stated, “Dragon is a guaranteed profit for us. All business transactions, including OTT and satellite, are completed. Whatever we earn from the theatrical release will be a profitable venture for us. We are uncertain about the scale of profit—will it be double, triple, or perhaps 30 to 40 percent? Regardless, we are satisfied with our gains.”

Produced by Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh, and Kalpathi S Suresh, the film features music by Leon James and cinematography by Niketh Bommi.

The film's editing is handled by Pradeep E Ragav, and stunts are coordinated by Vicky and Dilip Subbarayan. The story was co-created by Ashwath Marimuthu and Pradeep Ranganathan, while the dialogues and screenplay were penned by Ashwath Marimuthu.

Co-directed by Ramesh Narayanan, the costumes are designed by Dinesh Manoharan and Praveen Raja.
