Los Angeles, April 20 (NationPress) Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Phil fulfilled their commitment by featuring surprise guests during their second performance at Coachella 2025.
The frontman of Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, took the stage to perform two of their tracks, followed by Cynthia Erivo, who captivated the audience with her vocals, according to a report by Variety.
Grohl didn't hold back in the orchestral arrangement, passionately singing ‘The World Is a Neighborhood’ followed by the beloved Foo Fighters classic ‘Everlong’.
Wrapping up the set, Erivo chose a ballad that many in the audience were unfamiliar with, before concluding with the iconic Prince hit ‘Purple Rain’.
As reported by Variety, another guest performer who joined the Phil for the second weekend was Natasha Bedingfield, who performed her 2004 smash hit ‘Unwritten’, supported by a choir and the full orchestra.
Dudamel expressed to the crowd that the Phil's presence at Coachella symbolized “maybe the best two weekends of our lives, enjoying your energy”.
The philharmonic's set also included some familiar faces from the previous weekend, such as Venezuelan duo Cat7riel and Paco, who reunited with the symphony for a vibrant Latin-symphonic collaboration. Jazz-pop sensation Laufey again showcased her major hit, the bossa nova track ‘From the Start’, followed by her latest release, ‘Silver Lining’.
Laufey has a successful history with Dudamel and the Phil; her collaboration with the orchestra last summer was released as a feature film in December and subsequently as a live double-album for Record Store Day.
“I was an orchestra kid growing up, so this was my actual dream,” Laufey told the audience about collaborating with the LA Phil. “The fact that there are so many people here for an orchestra makes me so happy for music.”
This year's Coachella performances were not Laufey's first experience singing with a symphony at a major pop festival; she also achieved this last summer at Lollapalooza.
