Ektaa Kapoor Thanks Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi for Tax-Free Status of ‘The Sabarmati Report’

Mumbai, Nov 28 (NationPress) Film producer Ektaa Kapoor, who has been receiving an overwhelming positive response for her recent theatrical release ‘The Sabarmati Report’, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, following the announcement that the film has been granted tax-free status.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister shared the news via his X account, stating, “The people's government has made the film 'Sabarmati Report', which is based on a true incident, tax-free in Odisha. The film highlights how Karsevaks were tragically burned alive in the Godhra fire incident for vested interests, leading to societal unrest. This cinematic work aims to unveil the harrowing truths of our past and enhance public awareness. #TheSabarmatiReport.”

In response, Ektaa conveyed her gratitude to the Chief Minister, saying, “I am profoundly thankful to Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Ji and the Government of Odisha for making #TheSabarmatiReport tax-free in our state. This endorsement will facilitate the dissemination of a crucial chapter in our history to a broader audience.”

The Sabarmati Report’ delves into the tragic events surrounding the burning of the Sabarmati Express train. This unfortunate incident took place on February 27, 2002, when a mob ignited the S6 coach of the Sabarmati Express near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat. The film features an actor portraying a Hindi journalist who courageously confronts the system in pursuit of truth in journalism.

Previously, the film was also granted tax-free status in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Haryana, where the film's narrative is rooted. Despite its contentious claims of revealing historical truths, it has attracted a wave of positive feedback. Additionally, the film has received backing from prominent political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
