Ekta Kapoor Expresses Gratitude to Odisha CM for Tax Exemption on ‘The Sabarmati Report’

Bhubaneswar, Dec 3 (NationPress) Acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker and producer Ekta Kapoor had a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at his office within the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

Kapoor expressed her gratitude to CM Majhi for declaring her film 'The Sabarmati Report', which centers around the Godhra train burning incident, as tax-free in the state.

Following CM Majhi's directives, the state government announced on November 28 that the film would be free of tax in Odisha to respect the sentiments of the community.

“The people's government has decided to exempt the film 'Sabarmati Report', which is based on a true event, from taxes in Odisha. This film illustrates how the Kar Sevaks were tragically killed in the Godhra train fire incident to serve the interests of certain selfish individuals and create chaos. This cinematic work will shed light on a harrowing and tragic reality from our past, helping the general public to become more aware,” wrote the CM on November 28 when announcing the exemption.

In her message of thanks to the state government for the tax exemption, producer Kapoor stated, “I extend my heartfelt thanks to Hon’ble Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Ji and the Government of Odisha for making #TheSabarmatiReport tax-free in the state. This support will facilitate the dissemination of the truth surrounding an important chapter of our history to a broader audience.”

It's worth noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior officials, viewed ‘The Sabarmati Report’, a film inspired by the 2002 Godhra train burning, at the Parliament Library on Monday.

‘The Sabarmati Report’ focuses on the tragic events involving the Sabarmati Express train, which occurred on February 27, 2002, when a mob set fire to the S6 coach of the train near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat.

Raashii and Vikrant portray journalists in this film, which depicts the sorrowful events surrounding the Sabarmati Express train.

Balaji Motion Pictures, a subsidiary of Balaji Telefilms Ltd, presents ‘The Sabarmati Report’, featuring Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra, directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R. Kapoor, Amul V. Mohan, and Anshul Mohan, with a worldwide release by Zee Studios.
