Mumbai, March 7 (NationPress) Bollywood's versatile talent, Farhan Akhtar, known for his recent successful production ‘Superboys of Malegaon’, was present at the unveiling of a helpline dedicated to assisting victims of cyberbullying and sextortion.

At the event, the actor engaged with the press, praising this significant initiative. He remarked that in instances of sextortion, victims should acknowledge their mistakes, should they feel they have erred. The subsequent step is to consult individuals who can offer assistance and solutions to rectify the situation.

He expressed, “Children, while maturing, may harm themselves due to feelings of shame or unforeseen circumstances. Hence, ‘Brush of Hope’ is an excellent initiative. We are here to support it and I hope we can raise awareness through our efforts.”

When queried about effectively addressing this issue, the actor stated, “It fundamentally revolves around shame. People often believe their actions are wrong. If you think you have made an error, the initial step is to own up to it and consult those who can assist you.”

“I must commend the structure established by Maharashtra Cyber and the helpline created by Brush for Hope. It is incredibly encouraging to witness such resources available for boys, girls, men, and women,” he added.

In today’s digital landscape, cyberbullying and sextortion have become significant threats, with a rising number of individuals falling prey to online harassment. Brush of Hope (BoH), a non-profit organization, in partnership with Maharashtra Cyber, has launched a specialized helpline 022-65366666 aimed at providing timely support to victims of cyberbullying and sextortion. This helpline is designed to offer psychological counseling, legal advice, and emergency intervention to ensure that affected individuals receive the necessary assistance promptly.

The helpline will operate two lines, available six days a week from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, providing counseling to victims of cyberbullying.

The launch was also attended by BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and actress Jacqueline Fernandes.

Yashasvi Yadav, ADG of Maharashtra Cyber, mentioned that women are particularly vulnerable to cyberbullying today, often refraining from approaching the police due to fear. The helpline aims to encourage victims to step forward to seek justice.
