Pratik Gandhi Discusses Parenting Challenges in the Digital Age
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 17 (NationPress) Actor Pratik Gandhi, renowned for his roles in ‘Madgaon Express’, ‘Scam 1992 – The Harshad Mehta Story’, and ‘Mitron’, recently shared his thoughts on the anxieties of parenting in relation to his acting career.
During a special event hosted by Netflix, he offered a relatable and insightful viewpoint on parenting in today’s digital age, particularly concerning his 12-year-old daughter. He stressed the importance of active engagement and involvement rather than merely imposing restrictions for a balanced digital upbringing.
Gandhi revealed that his daughter frequently asks for his opinion on content ratings, which has led him to adopt a principle of ‘context over control’. He explained, “My daughter always inquires, ‘Baba, is it alright for me to watch what you're filming?’ I respond that if I can sit with her, then she can watch, as I can provide context for her understanding.”
He further discussed the potential of storytelling as a means to foster communication, stating, “Stories are our most effective tool for conveying messages without coming across as preachy.”
When questioned about how his role as a parent influences his perception of acting, he reflected, “It’s a continuous negotiation within myself. As an actor, my job is not to judge the character but to create it for public interpretation. However, as a father, I consider how my daughter and her peers will perceive it,” he elaborated.
The specially curated panel on ‘Raising Screen Smart Families’ featured Pratik Gandhi alongside Mahima Kaul, Director of Global Affairs at Netflix India, Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, and child psychologist Dr. Shwetambara Sabharwal.
