Mumbai, April 21 (NationPress) Actress Gehna Vasisth has initiated legal proceedings against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap due to his contentious remarks regarding the Brahmin community. The actress filed a formal complaint at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai, urging that an FIR be filed against Kashyap for his comments, which have ignited considerable outrage. In her complaint, Vasisth vehemently denounced Kashyap's statements, labeling them as derogatory and inappropriate. She challenged his choice of language and criticized the filmmaker for what she referred to as a disrespectful stance towards the Brahmin community.

In her complaint, she also implied that such remarks would have faced greater backlash if aimed at other communities, insisting that Kashyap must be held accountable for his actions. A complaint has also been lodged against Anurag at the Anand Vihar police station, in addition to another location.

Gehna Vasisth's legal actions come in light of a new controversy surrounding Anurag Kashyap, who has faced backlash from the Brahmin community for his film “Phule”, which they believe depicts them negatively. In response to the criticism, Anurag took to Instagram Stories to express his thoughts, which quickly led to backlash. One comment read, “Brahmins are your father,” to which Anurag replied with a controversial statement, “Brahmin pe main m***a..koi problem (I’ll pee on the Brahmins...any problem)?”

As a result of his controversial statement, an FIR has been filed against Anurag at the Bajaj Nagar police station in Jaipur. The case was initiated after Anil Chaturvedi, a resident of Barkat Nagar, submitted a complaint on April 19.

In light of the backlash, the filmmaker later issued an apology, clarifying that while he stands by his overall statements, he regrets a specific remark that was misinterpreted. He revealed that his family, especially the women, have been receiving threats of violence due to the controversy and urged the trolls to cease their harassment.

“This is my apology, not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends, and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of sanskar (tradition),” Kashyap stated.

Additionally, Anurag emphasized that while people are free to hurl insults at him, his family should not be involved in the fray.
