New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) A formal complaint has been lodged against acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for his offensive and derisive statements about the Brahmin community.
On Wednesday, while engaging with a user on Instagram, Kashyap remarked: "Brahmanon pe mootunga. Koi dikkat? (I will urinate on Brahmins. Any issue?)"
In the complaint submitted at the Tilak Marg Police Station in New Delhi, Ujjwal Gaur, a Delhi resident, described Kashyap's comments as vulgar, crude, and deeply offensive to the Brahmin community, labeling them as repulsive, inflammatory, and humiliating.
Gaur further asserted that such remarks could provoke animosity, disrupt public peace, and escalate communal discord.
Following the backlash over his controversial statements, Kashyap issued a public apology on Friday. He stated, "This is my apology, not for my post, but for that one line taken out of context and the escalating hatred. No action or speech is worth the threats of rape and death towards your family, friends, and colleagues from the champions of sanskar," as per his Instagram update.
Kashyap's message in Hindi conveyed, "What has been said cannot be undone... and I will not retract it. Feel free to insult me. My family has not expressed any opinion nor do they ever do so. If you seek an apology, here it is. Brahmins, please spare the women; even sacred texts advocate for this decency, not just the Manusmriti. Decide what kind of Brahmins you truly are. As for me, I extend my apology."
The filmmaker's controversial remark was made in response to a user who commented: "Brahmins tumhare baap hain. Jitna tumhari unse sulgegi utna tumhari sulgaayenge (Brahmins are your fathers. The more you provoke them, the more they will retaliate)."
This controversy emerged amid discussions surrounding his biopic, 'Phule', which focuses on the Phule couple's fight against caste and gender disparities in the 19th century.
The release of 'Phule', initially slated for April 11, was delayed following objections from the Akhil Bhartiya Brahmin Samaj and Parshuram Arthik Vikas Mahamandal regarding its content.
The Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) recommended script modifications, which have since been implemented. The film is now set to premiere on April 25.
