Mumbai, April 25 (NationPress) Following a complaint against filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap for his contentious remarks about the Brahmin community, the JMFC court in Surat has issued a notice requiring Kashyap to appear in court on May 7.
This notice was prompted by a complaint lodged by lawyer Kamlesh Rawal from Surat on behalf of the Brahmin community. Rawal indicated that he submitted Kashyap's social media posts and his subsequent apology as evidence, which the court accepted, leading to the issuance of this notice. It is mandatory for Kashyap or his legal representative to attend the court on May 7, or else the court might issue a unilateral ruling.
Further elaborating on the situation, Rawal informed IANS, "On April 16, Kashyap made an inappropriate comment about the Brahmin community, and Aditya Dutta had urged him to refrain from such statements. In response, Kashyap remarked - What have you Brahmins achieved? Consequently, I have filed a complaint in the Surat court under sections BNS of 196, 197, 351, 352, 353, and 356. After verifying all documents I submitted, the court has ordered Kashyap to appear before it on May 7."
Additionally, another complaint has been filed against Kashyap in Mumbai by RTI activist Atish Tiwari.
To refresh your memory, the director of 'Gangs of Wasseypur' previously stated, "Brahmin pe main m***a..koi problem (I'll pee on the Brahmins...any problem)?". This comment was made in reaction to a statement claiming, "Brahmins are your father."
Kashyap's remarks have garnered significant backlash from netizens.
He later issued an apology on social media, clarifying that he cannot retract what he said and does not wish to do so. He explained that his apology was not for his post but rather for a comment that was 'taken out of context', stating, "This is my apology, not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the increasing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends, and colleagues receiving threats of rape and death from the kingpins of sanskar (cultural values)."
