Mumbai, Aug 17 (NationPress) Hema Malini reminisced about her action sequences as Basanti in Ramesh Sippy's 'Sholay', celebrating the film's 50th anniversary on Friday.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, when asked about her stunts in the movie, Hema shared, "I have performed stunts in many of my films."
She elaborated, "Fight sequences were often tailored for me -- if Hema Malini is in the film, there must be a fight scene." Regardless of the role, she emphasized the necessity of having a fight.
Discussing her experiences in 'Sholay', Hema stated: "The action sequences primarily involved the tanga (horse cart) scenes where dacoits chased me. There’s a spectacular chase scene that stands out. Each scene in the film flows seamlessly, nothing remains static."
Hema expressed her intention to share 'Sholay' with her grandchildren, saying, "I don’t think they’ve seen it yet, but now that it’s 50 years old, I will definitely have them watch it at home in my mini theatre."
Initially, Hema had reservations about her role in 'Sholay', considering it minor compared to earlier hits like 'Sita and Geeta.' She reflected, "When 'Sholay' was offered, I felt disappointed thinking, 'Why such a small role for me?'"
However, the director reassured her, indicating that her role would carry significant weight in the narrative.
