Los Angeles, Dec 14 (NationPress) Hollywood icon Jack Nicholson may have retired from acting 15 years ago, yet his close friend and director James L. Brooks believes that he still possesses a wealth of talent and potential for future performances.
James directed Jack in the comedy film ‘How Do You Know’ and stated that Nicholson has not truly “stopped” acting, according to reports from ‘People’ magazine.
Both 88 years old, Brooks and Nicholson have forged a professional alliance and a personal bond, celebrated in Hollywood history, through the actor's Oscar-winning roles in Brooks' cherished dramedies, ‘Terms of Endearment’ and ‘As Good as It Gets’, along with a cameo in ‘Broadcast News’.
Despite the decade and a half since Nicholson’s last appearance in ‘How Do You Know’, Brooks asserts that the cinematic legend will eventually return to the silver screen.
“Oh, I don’t think he stopped,” Brooks remarked. “I mean, he’s received scripts, he’s reviewing them, and I’m certain we’ll see him again.”
As stated in ‘People’, Brooks previously mentioned that he feels Nicholson will eventually “get itchy and scratch” his artistic itch once more. He consistently refers to Nicholson as “the greatest actor of the generation” while discussing his latest film Ella McCay and his own directing journey, which helped earn Nicholson two of his three Academy Awards.
The duo first crossed paths when Debra Winger introduced Jack Nicholson to Brooks' screenplay for 1983's ‘Terms of Endearment’, persuading him to co-star alongside her and Shirley MacLaine.
James told ‘People’, “I didn’t have a second choice. I had to secure the greatest talent available, or I wouldn’t make the movie.”
“He’s a fantastic collaborator. I once asked him what to do if another actor isn’t particularly skilled,” he recounted.
Brooks shared an enlightening interaction with the actor: “He replied, ‘No, no. Whatever the other actor does is perfect.’ Not only is that a beautiful response, it’s profoundly true.”
James Brooks' latest film ‘Ella McCay’ is currently showing in theaters.
