Johnny Depp Issues Warning to Fans About Online Impersonators

Los Angeles, Jan 8 (NationPress) Hollywood star Johnny Depp has turned to Instagram to alert his followers that scammers are "impersonating" him and creating deceptive social media and email accounts.

In his Instagram message, Depp stated: "Happy New Year, Everyone - Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that online scammers are increasing their efforts to target my fans and supporters. They are using multiple, deceptive social media and email accounts to impersonate me and my team."

He continued, "Today, AI can generate convincing replicas of my face and voice. Scammers might appear and sound just like the genuine me. However, neither I nor my team will ever ask you for money or your personal details."

"We are actively engaged in combating these illicit schemes. (sic)"

Depp proceeded to share the handles of his official accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.

The actor, who boasts over 28 million followers on the photo-sharing platform, emphasized that he does not "interact directly with fans on any social media platforms, via email, or through chat-based platforms".

He added: "I am not present on X/Twitter, Snapchat, or Discord. I do not offer paid meetings, phone calls, club memberships, or fan cards. If anyone requests any money for a meeting, call, membership, or fan card, it is a scam."

"I do not communicate directly with fans on any social media platforms, via email, or through messaging apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, Signal, or Zangi. Once again, neither myself, my team, my agent, nor my family will ever contact you on my behalf asking for money or your personal information."

"JD and team.X (sic)."

The Golden Globe-winner launched his career as a musician and made his feature film debut in the horror flick A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984. He appeared in Platoon in 1986 and went on to star in iconic films such as Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
