Mumbai, Jan 17 (NationPress) In the midst of the controversy surrounding Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman's 'communal' comments, actress Kangana Ranaut has recounted her unpleasant encounter with him during her directorial project Emergency.
Kangana expressed her eagerness to share the script with Rahman, but he declined to even meet her, stating that he did not want to be involved in a propaganda film.
In her Instagram Stories, Kangana wrote, "Dear @arrahman ji, I endure significant prejudice and partiality in the film industry due to my support for a saffron party, but I must say I have never met someone more biased and hateful than you. I desperately wanted to narrate my directorial Emergency to you; however, you even refused to meet me. I was informed that you didn't wish to be a part of a propaganda film. (sic)"
Kangana emphasized that, contrary to Rahman's view, Emergency received substantial acclaim from critics, and even opposition party leaders praised the film for its balanced narrative.
"Ironically, Emergency was deemed a masterpiece by critics; opposition party leaders even sent me fan letters appreciating the film for its balanced and compassionate approach. Yet, you are blinded by your hatred. I pity you #emergency," Kangana added.
In an interview with the BBC Asian Network, Rahman mentioned that he has been receiving fewer work offers in Bollywood recently.
He elaborated that the reasons often reach him through indirect channels, referring to it as “Chinese whispers.”
Rahman shared, "People who lack creativity currently hold the power to make decisions, and while this may have a communal aspect, it is not evident to me."
“I hear through Chinese whispers that they engaged you, but the music company proceeded to hire their five composers. I thought, 'Oh, that's wonderful, I can relax with my family,'" the composer remarked.
