Mumbai, April 8 (NationPress) Renowned television actor Karan Patel, famous for his roles in shows like Kasturi and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, acknowledged that the release timing of his 2023 film Daaran Chhoo was not optimal, leading to its box-office failure. He also explained his reasons for not participating in the controversial reality series Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan.

In a conversation on Bharti Singh and Harssh Limbachiyaa’s podcast regarding Bigg Boss, Karan stated: “Bigg Boss is not for me. I cannot participate. While contestants may be inside the house, the audience outside becomes uneasy because how long can one maintain their patience for three months? You will never see me inside. If someone like Hiten Tejwani can lose his temper in the house, then just think about it…. Even Salman Khan told him, 'You are very sweet; this show is not meant for you.'”

He further remarked: “If Bigg Boss was like it was four or five years ago, centered on contestants and their lives, then audiences would find it interesting. Now, they've included commoners, celebrities, and individuals from various backgrounds…I don’t want to see my vegetable vendor in the Bigg Boss house…. Additionally, I cannot tolerate disrespect and poor treatment towards women… And the show seems to thrive on that.”

Karan then shifted the conversation to his film Darran Chhoo, releasing in 2023. The film is directed by Bharat Ratan and produced by his mother Minoo Patel and wife Ankita Bhargava Patel.

Regarding the film, Karan mentioned: “The timing of my film was off. We were novice producers, and when my film released, Salaar hit theaters just a week later, followed by Jawaan. We were also unaware of Indian Cinema Week, which played a role in our misjudgment. Thus, we launched our film at a very inopportune moment.

The day my film came out marked the 50th anniversary of Indian cinema, and numerous classic films were re-released on that same day. This is why my film performed poorly. Essentially, our timing was just wrong.”

Discussing the thriving Indian OTT landscape, he noted, “I am not receiving offers, whether for noteworthy roles or mediocre ones. The OTT space has become cluttered with too many projects.”

He criticized the digital platform, stating: “Many shows on OTT have devolved into what I consider soft porn. If there aren’t sleazy scenes or intimate moments, it appears they won’t attract viewers, even if they’re unnecessary to the plot.”
