Mumbai, July 14 (NationPress) Actor R. Madhavan, recently featured in the romantic comedy “Aap Jaisa Koi,” has pondered the diminishing chances to play roles in romantic films over the years.
The actor portrays a 42-year-old Sanskrit teacher in the Netflix film and expressed his fascination with “Aap Jaisa Koi.” Madhavan remarked, “I didn’t select this to return to romance. I chose it because it was a compelling narrative, suitable for my age, and relevant. There are only a handful of opportunities left to star in a love story — and even fewer that feel this genuine.”
Discussing his collaboration with Fatima Sana Shaikh in the film, the ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ star stated, “She’s a vibrant, younger actor — and I had to ensure our pairing looked appealing. However, she’s also extraordinarily charming, and I hold immense affection and admiration for her. The shoot felt too brief!” Fatima, in turn, describes Madhavan as “emotionally intelligent and sharp,” noting, “I learned something from him every day on set.”
Notably, Madhavan visited his alma mater during the filming of “Aap Jaisa Koi” in his hometown of Jamshedpur, Bihar. Reflecting on the experience, he shared with IANS that returning to the school reignited memories of the insecurities he faced regarding his future as a student.
“Visiting my old school brought back all the insecurities I had about my future. Until 8th or 9th grade, life was enjoyable, but afterward, I was anxious about not succeeding. I was suddenly reminded of the stress and pressure we faced during the final two years. In retrospect, I realized my fears were unfounded — 'look at where I am now.' At that time, failing to clear the IIT entrance exam felt like the end of the world, but those worries seem trivial now. Life always has something better in store.”
Directed by Vivek Soni, “Aap Jaisa Koi” debuted on Netflix on July 11.
