What Happened to Mouni Roy at the Event in Karnal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 24 (NationPress) Bollywood actress Mouni Roy has bravely shared her experience of a troubling incident that occurred during a recent event in Karnal, where she faced harassment from audience members, including elderly men.
The actress took to her Instagram stories to express her feelings about the incident, revealing that as she approached the stage, several male relatives placed their hands on her waist under the pretense of taking photographs.
She stated: “Had an event in Karnal last and I’m appalled by the actions of the guests, particularly two men who are old enough to be grandparents. As the event commenced and I walked towards the stage, these uncles and male family members placed their hands on my waist to take pictures (sic).”
When she voiced her discomfort and requested them to remove their hands, she encountered negative reactions.
“They didn’t like it when I said ‘sir, please remove your hand’,” she added.
Mouni further elaborated that the situation intensified once she reached the stage. Two men stood at the front, making vulgar comments, displaying obscene gestures, and resorting to name-calling.
“On stage is an even more unsettling story. Two uncles stood right in front, making lewd remarks and displaying indecent gestures. I noticed this and initially tried to signal them to stop, but they responded by throwing roses at me.”
“During my performance, I moved towards the stage exit but quickly returned to finish. However, the harassment persisted, and no family members or event organizers intervened (sic).”
Overwhelmed, the actress initially walked towards the stage exit but managed to regain her composure to complete her performance, although the harassment continued.
“If someone like me has to endure this, I can only imagine how new performers must feel. I am humiliated, traumatized, and I urge the authorities to take action against such intolerable behavior (sic).”
Calling for strict measures, Mouni emphasized that artists are simply trying to earn a living through their talent. She questioned, “What would these men do if their friends behaved the same way with their daughters, sisters, or any female relatives? Shame on you! (sic).”
