Mumbai, Feb 28 (NationPress) As his film “Thappad” celebrates its fifth anniversary in Hindi cinema, actor Pavail Gulatie, who referred to the film as a “blessing in disguise”, revealed that he required “nearly seven takes” to perfect the shot.
“Thappad has been an incredible journey for me, and it's a film I will treasure always. It came to me as a blessing in disguise, and I’m delighted that it happened,” Pavail expressed.
Released in 2020, 'Thappad', directed by Anubhav Sinha, serves as a critique of gender norms, relationships, and the societal constraints placed on women. The film tackles the issue of domestic violence, highlighted by actress Taapsee Pannu's impactful line, 'Sirf thappad hai, par nahi maar sakta'.
“‘Thappad’ is fundamentally about one slap, and inflicting such an act is far from kind. It took me nearly seven takes to capture the shot correctly, and Taapsee was adamant about achieving the scene's right angle and impact.”
The actor recalls feeling quite anxious during the shoot.
“It was a party scene with everyone present. They tried to help me relax, but the scene was sensitive and emotionally charged. I’m grateful it turned out as it should have. Each anniversary of Thappad reminds us that change is gradual but inevitable,” Pavail shared.
In 'Thappad', Pavail Gulatie portrayed Vikram Sabharwal, a devoted husband and provider. The narrative revolves around a married couple whose lives are disrupted when Vikram's promotion is jeopardized. In a fit of anger during an argument with his boss, he publicly slaps his wife, played by Taapsee Pannu.
Pavail took to Instagram to share a nostalgic photo from the “Thappad” shoot, featuring him with Anubhav and Taapsee.
“Five years ago, a dream materialized, and I’m still living it! THAPPAD will always hold a special place in my heart. It's shaped who I am,” he captioned the post.
“Sometimes I wish I could rewind time and live it all again! Wow, 5 years have flown by. @anubhavsinhaa I love you @taapsee sorry for the 6 retakes #5yearsofthappad #thappadmovie.”
