Chennai, April 12 (NationPress) The leak of footage from actor Vijay's highly anticipated film 'Jana Nayagan' prior to its official release has alarmed the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), the foremost and most established association representing film and entertainment producers in India. They have reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting his intervention and calling for immediate and severe measures against the individuals responsible for this piracy.

In a formal letter to the Prime Minister, IMPPA President Abhay Sinha expressed that while the industry is working hard to advance with technologies like Artificial Intelligence, it is troubling that it remains unable to address the persistent issue of piracy effectively.

Sinha pointed out that IMPPA has repeatedly sent letters and complaints to relevant authorities regarding the increasing threat of film piracy, specifically through platforms such as Telegram, torrent sites, and illegal websites like Tamilrockers. He emphasized that despite continuous efforts, these platforms operate without restraint, streaming films and causing significant financial hardship to producers and industry stakeholders, leading to devastating losses and jeopardizing their viability.

“We urge your immediate attention to the situation concerning 'Jana Nayagan'. This film has been prepared for an extended period and was submitted for certification to release on January 9, 2026. However, due to ongoing delays and legal challenges, certification has not been granted, hindering its official theatrical release and exploitation in cinemas,” Sinha informed the Prime Minister.

He further remarked, “These certification delays not only disrupt release timelines and financial strategies but also put films at grave risk. In this situation, the lack of timely certification and release has led to the film being illegally pirated, resulting in substantial financial losses for the producer and affecting all parties involved in the project.”

Sinha has requested the Prime Minister to ensure that immediate and strict actions are taken against those involved in the film's piracy and has called for enhanced protective measures and accountability frameworks to prevent pre-release piracy.

“Considering the critical and recurring nature of this issue, it is vital to effectively combat piracy, as its persistence leads to severe financial repercussions, discourages investment, and endangers the survival of producers and all industry stakeholders, which play an integral role in the 'Make in India' initiative supported by your esteemed leadership,” he concluded.
