Has Rajpal Yadav Settled Half of His Cheque Bounce Case?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 12 (NationPress) The legal representative for actor Rajpal Yadav, Bhaskar Upadhyay, has confirmed that 50% of the owed amount in the actor's financial insolvency case has been remitted.
The attorney mentioned that they requested to postpone the hearing on Thursday because the bail application they filed is pending a response from the opposing party. The manager plans to visit Rajpal Yadav in jail to discuss the payment and gather his input regarding it.
He indicated that answers to these queries should become clear by Monday. He stated, “The funds that were invested are undisputed. Previously, when discussions about the funds arose, the company declined to accept any payment. Negotiations concerning the 2012 agreement are ongoing, with three months already served. I cannot disclose who funded Rajpal Yadav, as it's a familial issue. I will personally visit him in jail to explain the required actions. Out of the total five crores, two and a half crores have already been paid; we’ll see what the court decides on Monday.”
For those unfamiliar, actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to authorities after the Delhi High Court ordered him to do so in relation to multiple cheque bounce cases. He had borrowed money in 2010 to produce his film 'Ata Pata Laapata' but failed to repay the loan. A magisterial court sentenced him and his wife to a six-month imprisonment in 2018.
In 2019, a sessions court upheld the ruling. When Rajpal Yadav and his wife sought relief from the Delhi High Court in 2024, the court temporarily suspended their sentences, considering their lack of history as habitual offenders, and granted time for resolution. However, the actor has yet to settle the debt. A single-judge bench led by Swarna Kanta Sharma criticized his behavior, noting his repeated failures to fulfill settlement agreements despite multiple opportunities.
