Has Rajpal Yadav Paid Half of His Cheque Bounce Amount?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 12 (NationPress) Manager of actor Rajpal Yadav, Bhaskar Upadhyay, has confirmed that half of the outstanding amount in the actor's financial insolvency case has been settled.
Upadhyay mentioned that they requested a delay in the hearing last Thursday because the bail they submitted is pending a response from the opposing party. He plans to meet with Rajpal Yadav in jail to discuss the payment and gather his thoughts on the matter.
He indicated that answers to these queries should surface on Monday. Upadhyay stated, “The funds invested for the purpose of investment have not been contested. Previously, when discussions regarding the funds occurred, the company refused to accept the amount. Negotiations regarding the 2012 agreement are ongoing, with three months already served. I cannot disclose who provided funds to Rajpal Yadav as it is a familial concern. I will personally visit the jail to inform him of the necessary steps. Out of the total five crores, two and a half crores have already been paid; we will see what the court decides on Monday.”
For those unfamiliar, Rajpal Yadav surrendered to authorities following a directive from the Delhi High Court in relation to multiple cheque bounce cases. The actor, who borrowed funds to produce his film 'Ata Pata Laapata' in 2010, faced difficulty in repaying the loan. In 2018, a magisterial court sentenced both him and his wife to six months in prison.
In 2019, a sessions court upheld the ruling. When the couple sought relief from the Delhi High Court in 2024, the court provisionally suspended the sentence, considering them not to be habitual offenders and allowing time for settlement. However, the actor still failed to clear the debt. A single-judge Bench led by Swarana Kanta Sharma criticized the actor’s behavior, noting his consistent inability to meet settlement obligations despite receiving multiple chances.
