Chennai, May 18 (NationPress) Renowned director Ram Gopal Varma expressed on Sunday that a significant contrast exists between international filmmakers and their Indian counterparts. He noted that while the former generally assumes their audience possesses intelligence and strives to enhance it, Indian filmmakers tend to assume the opposite, aiming to lower the audience's intelligence further.
In a candid post on X, the director, known for his outspoken nature, shared his thoughts after viewing Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.
Following his screening of the film, Varma tweeted, "Just saw #MissionImpossibleTheFinalReckoning and it’s MindFuckkaBlowing! The BEST of the FRANCHISE."
He subsequently elaborated on the differing mindsets of filmmakers, contrasting those from India and abroad. Varma highlighted Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning as an exemplary film that seeks to uplift the audience's intelligence, yet he left a blank for a film he feels has the opposite effect.
He stated, "The difference between them and us is they assume the audience to be intelligent and push their intelligence further up, by creating films like #MissionImpossibleTheFinalReckoning. Conversely, we assume the audience to be dumb and we push their dumbness further down to reach the most ignorant audiences by making films like ____________."
It is important to note that Varma had previously penned a personal confession expressing his regret for not setting his film Sathya as a standard for his future projects.
In this note, he made a commitment that every future film would embody the core reasons behind his aspiration to become a director, also announcing his upcoming film titled Syndicate.
Varma expressed his intention to atone for all cinematic missteps made over recent years with this single film, Syndicate.
