Los Angeles, March 23 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling has disclosed his childhood fascination with soap operas.

The 45-year-old star of ‘Project Hail Mary’ confessed that he lacked many friends as a youngster and instead immersed himself in television. He fondly recalled enjoying the morning talk show Live! With Regis and Kelly as well as the classic soap Days of Our Lives, according to reports from ‘Female First UK’.

While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ryan shared, "I didn't have a lot of friends growing up. I had television.”

“I used to pretend to be unwell just to stay home and watch Regis and Kelly. I adored both Regis and Kelly and Days of Our Lives,” he continued.

As reported by ‘Female First UK’, the ‘Barbie’ star emphasized that soap opera performers often don't receive the recognition they deserve, pointing out how actors like Deidre Hall, a longtime cast member of Days of Our Lives, provided him with an invaluable “acting class” through her performances.

He added, “Days of Our Lives and soap actors, in general, don’t get the appreciation they deserve. They have to memorize scripts the night before, often covering ten pages of dialogue. They only get one take, with scenarios that can be incredibly challenging, such as when Marlena Evans, played by Deidre Hall, was possessed. This was during a time when supernatural themes were popular, like in The X-Files.”

“It was a remarkable acting lesson. I distinctly remember thinking how talented Deidre Hall is, considering she had to act as if she was possessed. That seemed quite a demand. I eventually stopped watching the show—not because of that, but because I needed to live my life. Recently, I saw her on TV again, and she was possessed once more. It feels like our lives are intertwined whenever Deidre Hall gets possessed,” he reflected.

When queried about the speculation surrounding his admiration for the UK sci-fi series Doctor Who, Ryan acknowledged that he used to watch it but expressed a greater fondness for soap operas.
