Sudipto Sen Clarifies His Comments on Not Directing 'The Kerala Story 2'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 26 (NationPress) Sudipto Sen, the director behind "The Kerala Story", has addressed the confusion surrounding his previous comments regarding his decision not to helm "The Kerala Story 2". During the promotional event for his new film "Charak: Fair of Faith", he was queried about his assertion that he does not create films based on WhatsApp messages.
In response, Sen clarified that his remarks were misinterpreted, emphasizing that a subject of this magnitude demands extensive research—a task he has not undertaken.
He expressed confidence that the producers of "The Kerala Story 2" have conducted thorough research and crafted a commendable film.
Sen stated, "I never made that claim. My words were taken out of context. I later reiterated my position on Instagram, mentioning that I lack the expertise on this subject and cannot produce a film merely from reading WhatsApp forwards. Comprehensive research is essential, and that’s why I declined the project. Those who have done the necessary research are the ones making the film, and I believe it will be quite good."
Previously, in an interview, he elaborated on his choice to step away from directing "The Kerala Story 2", which had sparked some controversy.
He noted that while he invested considerable time in research for "The Kerala Story", he is not as knowledgeable about the issues tackled in "The Kerala Story 2".
When questioned about his continued support for the narrative of "The Kerala Story", Sen affirmed that "as long as the film addresses Islamic radicalism and the ISIS operational model, which is prevalent in various regions globally, I stand by the topic. I believe it sheds light on a sinister agenda of ISIS and radical Islam that warrants discussion."
Nevertheless, he added, "I have no further comments regarding it, as 'The Kerala Story 2' explores issues in other states beyond my expertise. I am not knowledgeable in that area."
